How to Backup DVD Movies(D9 to D5, D5 to D5, D9 to D9, etc.)

I am looking for software to copy DVDs I bought for my kids. I am aware of the copyright issues but I have a 3 and 5 years old and you won't believe that how often they will watch the movie. Er, I have some DVD5 discs, so may I copy my D9 DVD to D5 DVD discs?

This guide shows you the simple five steps about how to backup DVD movies from DVD9 to DVD5, DVD5 to DVD5, DVD9 to DVD9 and DVD5 to DVD9.

Actually it is quite simple to backup DVD movies to another DVD disc if you have a DVD copy software and a DVD burner installed on your computer. The problems you may encounter concern two aspects: copyright protection and DVD compression.

Luckily, many DVD copy softwares nowadays can bypass DVD copyright protection like CSS, RC, and RCE(Region Code Enhanced) and copy protected DVDs successfully. But please notice that not all such DVD copiers can also backup D9 DVD to D5 DVD since a compression of D9 DVD to D5 DVD is needed to fit a DVD movie larger than 5GB in a DVD5 disc. So it is important to select a DVD copy software which can not just copy DVD to another DVD disc, but copy D9 DVD to D5 DVD. Here Aimersoft DVD Copy is used.

Step 1: Download Aimersoft DVD Copy and install it

Step 2: Select DVD Source - DVD-RAM

Launch Aimersoft DVD Copy, insert the DVD disc which you want to copy to your DVD driver. Please note that a DVD driver with burning function(DVD-RAM) is indispensible here. If you just want to copy DVD to computer, a DVD-ROM is enough.

Click the "Source" drop-down list to browse your computer and locate your source DVD, you will see two options: "DVD Folder" and "DVD-RAM".

Copy Protected DVDs Step 3: Select DVD Target - DVD-RAM

Click the "Target" drop-down list to select a target to output the DVD movie. Aimersoft DVD Copy supports all popular DVD discs which include: DVD–5 and DVD–9; DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD±R DL, and DVD-RAM.

If you are copying a DVD disc from your DVD driver to another DVD disc, Aimersoft DVD Copy will ask you to insert a blank DVD disc when the program gets ready to burn. Then you can just take the original DVD disc out and insert a blank DVD disc.

But if you have two or multiple DVD Burners, you just need to change object DVD to another DVD burner and insert a blank disc into it , then Aimersoft DVD Copy will automatically copy DVD movie to the new DVD disc. No need to wait for the conversion to insert a new blank DVD disc.

Copy Protected DVDs Step 4: Select Copy Mode

Click "Copy mode", you'll see three options: "Full Movie", "Main Movie", and "Custom Mode".

Full Movie: If you want to copy the whole videos from the dvd disc, you can select "Full Movie" mode;

Main Movie: If you only want to copy the main movie, not the feature, the introduction of upcoming movies or other info that are not related with the movie you want, just select the "Main Movie" mode;

Custom Mode:if you want to copy the exact title, you can select "Custom Mode" and preview to check your desired ones as shown in the following figure:

Copy Protected DVDs Step 5: Start Copying

After all things done, click "Start" to start burning the original DVD to another DVD disc. That's all.

Note:If you want to burn videos to DVD with more editing, you can use DVD Creator to achieve that.
